So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

No, none at all. I don't know why you would think so... I am genuinely concerned if someone buys a camera that he/she expects to act in a certain way, and it acts in a different way than expected... kind of like buying a rubber mallet when you meant to get a hammer. Edit: it just occurred to...

So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

I don't think anybody in this thread is expressing any kind of snobbery. I don't understand why you're taking such an aggressive tone. What I've seen happen is that we now have fairly large sensors crammed into small bodies, bodies similar in size to a pocketable P&S, and this has... "misled"...

Two Very Different 35mm Equivalent Combos - A7R Summilux and E-M1 Nokton

Yes, a square is more efficient spatially, but less efficient if trying to relate to a human's visual impression. We see more latitudinally. I agree, it just seems weird to me, lol. Well, it depends on the APS-C camera. Pentax & Nikon's "crop factor" is generally 1.51x - 1.53x, depending...

Olympus Olympus Stylus 1 Review (Shooter's Report) @ Imaging Resource

Since my ultimate goal with a superzoom is shooting wildlife, 300mm just isn't enough for me, I need closer to a thousand. That $700 would almost cover an EVF + 100-300 for my Oly. I'm still kinda disappointed that I had 2 Fuji HS50EXR's die on me, that camera is so pleasant to use and the...

Two Very Different 35mm Equivalent Combos - A7R Summilux and E-M1 Nokton

There's fewer pixels in your 3:2 sample, though. Your 4000x3000 image: 12mp Your 4128x2752 image: 11.36mp For those interested, a few months ago I took my 16mp Oly and my 16mp K-01 and compared the aspect ratios: m43 vs aps-c @ 28mm FOV (kit lens comparison) The difference isn't huge...

So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

It would be useful if every camera came with a simple instruction booklet or video to explain and demonstrate basic photographic concepts... things that would be necessary to understand even if the consumer never even planned to take the camera off "Auto" mode.

So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

Exactly, and I think people genuinely get confused because a camera like a Nikon Coolpix A is a "Coolpix" - a P&S line.

So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

Growing up in my house, the "family camera" used 110 film - far smaller than 35mm.

So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

John, I don't think it's relying on technology as much as simply not understanding - or at least being able to account for - the basic physics involved. "Big sensor" compacts have introduced a new factor - depth of field - that traditional compacts (with small sensors) seldom needed to deal...

So... advanced cameras in the hands of "happy snappers" creating problems?

I'm posting this, inspired by a couple of recent posts here on SC from folks who've bought pocketable, big-sensor cameras. There are many people who feel that the answer to a problem is to throw more money at it. Over the last couple of years, we've seen a new class of camera emerge, the...

'How to take good photos for under $1000'

Just read the linked article, and skimmed thru the posts here... lordy! :drama: I think I disagree with much of Stu's advice, but I think that doesn't matter. I do agree with "spray & pray". Why? Because you should be changing camera parameters and compositions while you spray. Then...

    What is photography...to me...

During the "Summer of My Photographic Discontent", I noticed these little blue butterflies flitting around the back yard. The were really small, like 1/2 inch across both wings. Blue-to-gray wings with gold-to-orange markings. I went inside and told my sweetie about them... I told her I knew...

    What is photography...to me...

Sue, I have a faintly similar feeling to yours... I seldom stray far from home unless absolutely required, and the few times I did try to go further - say, a 20 minutes drive and 30 minute hike - I was so anxiety-ridden that I couldn't enjoy myself and hurried home... having a loved one with...

    Weatherproof camera with long reach?

I agree with Sue and John, it is certainly possible to use a non-WR camera in inclement weather if one is careful. A little rain never bothered me, nor a moderate snow; I'm always careful to wipe away the moisture, and not retract the lens until it's been dried. I took these a couple years...

Linda Ronstadt in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame

Sad to read that she has Parkinson's, and says she "can't sing a note". :frown: I'm not a fan of the R&R HoF, it's actually kind of ridiculous... based as it is on sales, longevity, and whether or not Rolling Stone magazine likes you. Just recently they added an "online fan vote", so now the...
