Barn Swallows are odd little creatures. They will often congregate on my window ledge in the spring and summer, sometimes in groups of a dozen or more. They have a strange habit of twisting their head around and lowering it to the ledge, as if they are listening for something. I've seen them twist their head around so much it was nearly inverted. Gosh, Tony, these little guys are so very like our Welcome Swallows (so called, because when you are walking across grass and so on, they swoop around you as if saying hello, but in fact are scooping up tiny insects you've disturbed.). The colouring is very similar. I'll see if I can dig up my most recent shots of some down at the local swamp

Here we go: I had to lift shadows a lot to show the lighter breast feathers, so the photo is not exactly wondrous... But they look very similar. Wonder if they have a genetic relationship...
