Birds Show Birds

Noisy Miners at bath time. I have to refill the tray multiple times a day, splashy little things they are.

You have these in zoos??? Colour me amazed. They are so common around here. There are two that live in my street, in fact I think most streets in the area have two pairs or more (and many territorial disputes). They are fascinating birds, and excellent parents of their babies.

Yes we do, mainly because we really have nothing like them around here. The Columbus Zoo is all about immersion, so they try and have a well rounded representation of animals from a specific region. We just recently got a wombat named Glenn a few months ago. Quite the character and a local favorite almost immediately. He has been over shadowed a bit of late by the birth of a female polar bear a few weeks ago.

The zoo is also very heavy into wild animal rehabilitation and re-introduction into the wild. If they cannot be set free, they give them permanent home at the zoo or other local sanctuary.

This should give you an idea of what is in just the "Australia and the Islands" region of the zoo.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has been ranked the #1 zoo in the USA for the last several years, unseating the San Diego Zoo who had the best zoo for many, many years prior (and is still a fantastic zoo).

Thanks for the link, Andrew, going to look now. and.. I love wombats :)

Í haven't photographed birds for a while, but today, after weeks of missing them every time I had a lens to do the job, and seeing them often when I did not, I finally managed to get some shots of cranes who visit a nearby field. To keep the kit light as I walked not knowing if I'd find anything, I used the E-M5 with an old OM Olympus 135mm f3.5 and a 2x converter. I think it did reasonably well. I do need to get a digital lens, though.
