Seven Elements That Help Make A Great Black & White Photograph

In my opinion it first takes creativity and vision to understand these seven elements and not the other way around. I think it is best to focus on the balance of form and context and expend that eventually to light, composition, and the moment.

John, thanks for this link. When I read articles like this I consider what the author says and then I actually try not to think about the ideas when I am taking photographs. This isn't to say I don't appreciate suggestions or truisms...but I guess I think it's sort of like playing tennis... You can't think too much about the game and your shots, you have to go with it and for it - but not dwell on it. They used to call it "inner tennis". Perhaps we can have "inner photography", too?

All this is not to say that I don't appreciate Scott Bourne's advice, I do.
