Late July storm clouds on my street

I live on the edge of a small, rural town in southern Oregon - Talent, Oregon - and yesterday we had one of our first serious thunderstorms of the season. The storm itself was wonderful - but the gathering clouds, and the quality of the light, leading up to it, were even better. I started walking up the street, then stopped.

Then I took this picture.

It's a good place to live.

front porch stones

A small collection of river and ocean stones sits on the front porch of the old farmhouse where I live. The colors are muted and subtle, reminding me of past trips to rivers or the coast. Many days I don't look at them at all. But today they caught my attention -

Taken with a diminutive Canon EOS-M that I'm trying out....so far, so good.

Typewriter

This ancient ("Smith & Corona") typewriter belonged to my aunt, a historian and writer - and now it sits in a place of honor in my living room.

Surprisingly, this almost looks like a monochrome photograph - but it's not, it's color - it's just that the colors are on the .... subtle side.
