I live on the edge of a small, rural town in southern Oregon - Talent, Oregon - and yesterday we had one of our first serious thunderstorms of the season. The storm itself was wonderful - but the gathering clouds, and the quality of the light, leading up to it, were even better. I started walking up the street, then stopped.
A small collection of river and ocean stones sits on the front porch of the old farmhouse where I live. The colors are muted and subtle, reminding me of past trips to rivers or the coast. Many days I don't look at them at all. But today they caught my attention -
