GAS Latest Shiny Things (non camera related)

OK Iā€™m jealous. I also need a bottom mount fridge to save my back, and the cost compared to where they were at 5 years agoā€¦ yikes. I only have a tiny kitchen so Iā€™m going to get a tiny fridge, with not much depth and none of the fancy modern stuff like yours. I wish.

Darkroom Challenge Digital Darkroom Derby #156 - Closed, with results

Thought I would see how Snapseed on the iPad Air might handle this. Not bad but I donā€™t think it would survive examination on a large screen. I played with contrast and brightness, details, cropping (I found that ā€œlumpā€ of snow on the left quite distracting), a touch of HDRā€¦ a bit of a...

Quite honestly, your ancient computer and software were very much equal to the task. Youā€™ve made a wonderful separation of the subject from the background and still retained the wrenā€™s ā€œessenceā€. Well done!

No use to Amazon, but its that notion that "if I can't then nobody else can either, so take that!" Amazon does not care. Don't expect it to.

This is amazon though. Once something is either not as they thought it would be, or not profitable, its gone. No, they won't give it or sell it to anyone else. It will be gone. If you have stuff there and want to keep it, you should d/l asap.

Excellent. Apart from the camera comparison side by sides, Chris and Jordan were my main reason for visiting there. It's truly disappointing though, to me, not very surprising, Amazon has a history of buying up other sites/products and then killing them off. eg: my favourite ereader on iOS...

GAS What was your best purchase of 2022?

Simply Red sang it allā€¦ ā€œmoneyā€™s too tight to mentionā€¦.ā€ Nothing this year or last. Iā€™d like to say for 2023 Iā€™ll have a waterproof cam of some kindā€¦ but inflation does its thing and it seems unlikely. In the meantime I seem to have lost my GAS.

    Pentax Pentax K10D or K200D?

Iā€™d suggest looking at Ricoh / Pentax ā€“ Photo Gallery There are collections by artist and by camera. They used to have a camera/lens selector as well. REal photos taken by real people. I even have a few in there :) https://pentaxphotogallery.com/suewotton. but I have no submitted anything for years.

What books are you reading for pleasure these days?

Youā€™re all too serious!! Give me some decent sci-fi, dystopian, anything but reality books and I am happy. Currently I am reading one I downloaded on spec from Amazon, called ā€œNemesisā€ by Bill Napier. It took a while for me to get where he was going with it but now I am loving it. That said...

    Apple IOS is so frustrating!

I've been using Calibre for years, to store and manage my ebooks. Then I use Hyphen reader to load them to my phone. I have hundreds of ebooks and I don't want them all on my phone at once. https://calibre-ebook.com http://hyphenreader.com The one reader which used to do exactly as you...

    Apple IOS is so frustrating!

I bought an app called File Browser back in the days when Pads were new and fairly useless for anything resembling ā€œworkā€. Telstra via Woolworths prepaid. But there is no 5G within cooee, and the 12 Mini kept looking for something that isnt there and thusly gave me. a very crappy signal for voice (no LTE or WiFi calling). What are you doing?

Thanks, @William Lewis, I might, but in recent months I only take my phone (now an iPhone11 Pro) and Apple Watch. Everything I need is in the phone, including, now, a decent camera :) I confess though, part of the getting ready process is also "which camera today?". And then I decide "none"

    Abandoned Cameras

Its funny how important it is: the aspect of "bonding" with a camera. I've bought a few that I bonded with and didn't realise until after they went away... My first K200D, for example. I bought another second hand but it just doesnt feel the same, although the images it produces are just as...
