Very nice shot Mannix! I can imagine the weather sealing gives you a bit more confidence to use the camera in such conditions :)

    Challenge! Cameraderie Challenge #67 - 180 degrees.

That's a cool theme Jens! I think I might actually have a few of these laying around, as I try to also look behind me when I'm on a hike and see some interesting view. As an aside, if you edit the OP to enter a start date and an end date in the dedicated fields, the challenge will appear on the...

Geez Mel... What an awful amount of the sad side of life you've had to deal with man... My thoughts are with you. Hope your and the Chihuahua's health both improve. Take care.

I've come to appreciate this thing a lot more over the past year and 359 days... Great shot, love how the shape of the clouds reinforces the dynamism of the airplane.

    Micro 4/3 New rumors

I think the 150-600 is really lame. Way too big and heavy for the system, way more expensive than the Sigma branded version, the only benefit is the IPx1 rated weather sealing but that can't possibly justify the price difference can it? All in all, OMDS is signaling a level of commitment to...

Challenge! Cameraderie Challenge #66 - Insomnia _Winner Announced!

I'd all but blocked this memory of last summer. While hiking a long distance trail in Germany, I did my first bit of wild camping in a place where it's not legal (previously only in countries where it's legal). I was in quite a rural area and there weren't any good stretches of forest to...

Fuji Showcase Fujifilm XF10 - A place to share your photos

Ever since the OG X100, Fuji's been great at balancing flash and natural light on its compacts. I hardly ever used it on the X100 and very close to never on the XF10, but it is a really viable tool.

Challenge! Cameraderie Challenge #65 - Responsibility - WINNER ANNOUNCED

There's no set date when to start it; whenever you've thought of a theme and have some time to write it up, that's fine (although in order to keep the flow of the challenges going, generally speaking somewhat close to the end of the previous challenge is preferred). Usually the challenge opens...

I was very interested in this camera at the time, but they were impossible to find in the brick and mortar stores in my region. Thanks for taking us along with your adventure with this rarity! That's all, folks! Thanks to everyone who entered and/or checked out this revival issue of the Cameraderie Challenge! At six entries it's clear we still have some further warming up to do, but overall I'm not disappointed as there's great variety in the entries and a lot of thought that went...

Advice Wanted I'm toying with the idea of travel one-handed camera, need opinions/user experience please

In addition to CraigC's comment regarding the Ricoh GR series, the Fuji XF10 has a similarly small footprint, is definitely one hand operable (although its user interface probably isn't quite so refined as the ricoh's), has a similarly high quality lens to the GR, and has less lens telescoping...

Crashed the car on the weekend.

On solid clean surfaces, the wider the tyre the more grip you'll have. It's only when there's an opportunity to bite into a soft surface (like a dirt road) or push through a layer of slippery stuff like water or snow to connect with a solid layer underneath (usually a paved road), that narrower...

    A few shots from Leiden

I passed through it on a hike to the coast about a year ago. The walking route took in some nice streets (including a courtyard associated with the Pilgrims), but it was a dreary cold grey day, not very photogenic and I was eager to make it to the train station. Will have to return on a nicer...

Crashed the car on the weekend.

Yikes, that looks like quite a crash! Glad you're okay! Regarding 4wd, that'll help you keep traction (tyres propelling the car in the direction they're aimed) and help prevent understeer in corners, but it doesn't change the sideways grip that the tyres have. You mention that the car was...

Fuji Showcase Fujifilm XF10 - A place to share your photos

Given how similar the FoV is to most smartphones' main cameras, the two reasons I use the XF10 are better image quality for the rare occasions I want to print, and a nicer user interface. As such, I turned off the touchscreen as soon as I got it. I don't like the not-quite-rugged feeling of...

Good question Mike. I think for me it'd be clearest if you remove the image from your first post (you can edit the text to reflect that you've chosen a different photo), and use a second post to bring your new choice to my attention. If you were to delete the first post entirely, any potential...

Challenge! Cameraderie Challenge #65 - Responsibility - WINNER ANNOUNCED

If I'm not mistaken, it's been a year since the last Cameraderie Challenge was organized, and I always loved them even if I didn't always participate. Welcome Mike! I'm a strictly color shooter myself but do appreciate B&W when shot by others. Looking forward to seeing some of your shots if you care to share! We have some ongoing challenges and one or two that need kickstarting. Also we tend not to be too much about 'my lens is bigger than...

Advice Wanted Fell on the ice

Wishing you a speedy recovery Charlotte! I don't know what kind of gear you're using. If it's an ILC with a big lens, a camera holster might work better than a waist pack, which usually don't do well with significant weight or bulk. For small and light loads, I'm a big fan of waist packs in...

Advice Wanted 500px - anyone using it - I am - but may switch back to Flickr....

My flickr account is dormant and will be switched to Friends Only sometime soonish. This forum and my Wordpress blog (for which I do pay and therefore have quite some uploading space) are enough for me.

Grey Seals resting on a pebble beach just outside of Wicklow, Ireland. The few pups among them were already quite big in late February (birthing season is Sept - Dec). Unfortunately I only had my Fuji XF10 with its 28mm equivalent lens... Thankfully I did bring my binoculars :-)

Advice Wanted Post processing - too much - getting tired of it? You can't hurt my feelings. :)

I've personally moved away from all heavy processing. I read somewhere that the world is much grayer and duller than we like to believe, so I started paying intense attention to the actual colors of "things" out there. And lo and behold - things really do tend to be much less saturated than even...

Sony New Sony A9iii has a Global Shutter

Very cool development. Regarding ISO 250 and DR: I'd expect it to be noticeably worse than ISO 80, about on par with an APS-C sensor at ISO 100. But it seems to me that with a shutter speed of up to 1/80,000 and 120fps, you could complete an HDR image with barely any subject movement in barely...
