Here's an old look processed image from Brighton Beach. Olympus E-PL2 and Panasonic 14mm f/2.5
A little back story. Went to the local camera store on Saturday. I had some trade and I was looking at some of the old stuff...again...tinkering with Pentax, I thought to be a good idea. They had an *ist D and a K10D. Decided on the K10D and they had a 17-70/4 SDM. Hear good things about it as far as IQ goes - so decided to go that route. The K10D did not have a charged battery, so I just decided to take a chance on it and test it out once I got home to get it charged up. The dreaded "dead SDM" motor on the 17-70 was apparent. Since I didn't have any other Pentax lenses and the camera store closed before I could get the test done and they were not open on Sunday, I had to wait until today to go back and get it all sorted. Before I returned, I double checked to see that the K10D had the newest firmware that allows it to work with the SDM motor lenses. Confirmed it was the lens motor. I decided to just use that lenses credit to get the 18-135 and 50-300. Nice little walk about combo. All these are with the 18-135, honestly not really a lot more is needed for a nice little walk around package! Will test out the 50-300mm tonight or tomorrow after work. I'm shooting the camera in DNG (RAW). I've found, much like the Olympus E-300 that the files take to running them through the Topaz Photo AI RAW denoise/sharpen algorithm first, then into Lightroom for exposure/color adjustments. Initial thoughts - a great/solid Pentax offering. I can see where the likes of the K-5 and K-3 got their heritage! Basic, no frills photographer's camera that I really enjoy! It might sound dumb, but from what I remember, the K-3 and K-5 seemed a little less confident in AF than this K10D. It is on the last firmware version 1.31. I will be the first to admit though that it very well may have been the used copies of the other Pentax's I've owned. Have seen plenty of impactful, colorful and sharp images from other Pentax shooters. Enough of my ramblings....bring on the pics! 1 - this one was a little green..never really found a white balance that I liked better than this - but hey - this is experimentation time...so not worried about "nailing" it right now. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
