Yeah, just the name is a grabber isn't it? OK, some background on the band. It is i swing/dance/jazz band in Portland, OR, run by the Medlers, Ben and Michelle, who are just great folks. I have known of them for 20 years and known them for about 10 of those years. For me their claim to fame is that they teach music to Mid and HS kids in the Portland area and that music is jazz. So they are a nursery for jazz musicians and churn out some good chops on their students. They also have a few bands of their own, one of which is The Shanghai Woolies. And the Woolies had a concert a short time back. The venue is a nosebleed for shooting. The light is bad as it is from a myriad of low power LED's and there are no spots. I made the best of what was a bad situation. The music was great, the Medlers attract good pro's when they work as well as good students when they teach. I have had a hard drive disaster so all I have right now is what is on Flickr. But, here are some photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBkJUA
I got this idea, well, mainly from shooting inside an Ikea today. You know that vague unease of, not the drug-addled "high tech, low life" dystopia of William Gibson and the cyberpunk crowd (though I love that aesthetic), but the sort of urban/suburban, pedestrian, everyday quiet existential unease. It seems like we should be able to find a fair amount of this in today's world, right? I'll kick it off.
